WorkSafe New Zealand to reinvestigate two injury cases.

WorkSafe New Zealand has confirmed it will revisit Auckland’s Mt Albert Aquatic Centre following two separate injuries linked to a hydroslide at the facility.

The regulator said it was first notified after a man was injured on the slide in late December. Less than a week later, a 12-year-old boy was also hurt.

WorkSafe inspectors visited the aquatic centre two days after the first incident and noted that safety improvements had since been made. A spokesperson confirmed an inspector will return to the site later this month for a follow-up visit.

Auckland Council said the hydroslide has been inspected twice in the past six months. Head of service partner delivery Garth Dawson said the council would continue working with the operator, Community Leisure Management, and the slide’s manufacturer to ensure the attraction remains safe for users.

Community Leisure Management director Kirsty Knowles said the company is in the process of improving signage at the hydroslide.
